C.O. Conna   College credits
04-08-2014 11:10:19 AM EST
For those submitting a suggestion regarding college free tuition at CUNY; here is something to build on: Ulster County government permits their full-time employees the benefit of cost-free college tuition at Ulster County Community College with a limitation of a maximum of TWO college courses (6 credits) a semester. This can either be classroom or on-line courses. When proposing a concept to a political subdivision-- it is a good idea to start small rather than whole explaining the advantages and fiscal impact on the municipality. In other words; explaining the concept of allowing sworn members and auxiliary volunteers of NYPD the advantages of cost-free higher education. Will it help you to perform your job better? Will it assist you in obtaining a promotion? It is much easier to ask for two courses a semester rather than five courses (full time student) given the above rationale. By the way; years ago any NYC resident could attend CUNY tuition-free; but that was changed during the late 1970s.

A/P.O. Stauber   It's confirmed. "Impressed."
04-08-2014 10:02:09 AM EST

"Please let Detective Green know how impressed we were, not only by the number of dedicated Auxiliary Officers who were present at the meeting last night but also with his commitment to the Program. The Auxiliary Program is so important to this Department; your dedication to making this City even greater than it already is has not gone unnoticed and is MUCH appreciated!" THIS CAME STRAIGHT FROM COMMISSIONER PEREZ'S OFFICE THIS MORNING! We're on their radar, they are cognizant of our work! Let's go now - get to it. Sunday, Persian Parade...who's coming in?

DET. GREEN   Attention!
04-08-2014 9:54:23 AM EST

ATTENTION: I have received some ideas in regards to the reengineering initiative. Just some advice. If you are sending in an idea to have college waived for auxiliary members, 1st, CHECK YOUR SPELLING! You are asking to have the NYPD Waive college yet, you can not spell or formulate a sentence. I'm not trying to deter anyone from sending in ideas. I am trying to help you. If you are sending in an idea, build it from the ground up. For example, do not just say that the NYPD should waive college because the cost of college has gone up. How is that helping the department? Think before you send in an idea. Your idea should be a well thought out plan. Not a comment. Build the plan. Explain yourself. What is the positives and negatives. If you want to be taken seriously and if you really care, put some time in when you have an idea. Put some research in.

LET'S JUST DO IT! LET'S JUST DO IT BECAUSE WE CAN! WE CAN TAKE THIS UNIT TO ANY LEVEL THAT WE WANT. LET'S CLIMB THIS LADDER TOGETHER AND GET SOME THINGS DONE. WHO IS IN????? I WANT TO HEAR IT THROUGH YOUR WORDS. I WANT THIS BOARD UTILIZED. WE CONTROL THIS UNITS DESTINY. WE CONTROL OUR SUCCESS. WE ARE THE CTTF!!! To the negative people who do not like us or what we stand for as a team, YOU CAN'T HURT US WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. REMEMBER THAT!!! HOORAH!

DET. GREEN   Go-Getters!!!! Getting the job done!
04-08-2014 8:50:20 AM EST

Not all of us are “go-getters” by nature. The world needs hares and tortoises, and everything between. Being more of a tortoise is only a problem if you find yourself stuck in a rut, dissatisfied, or wanting something but never doing anything about it. If so, you may want to cultivate one or more qualities of people who are self-motivated. Most people, to reach their potential, must sooner or later develop their weaknesses to support their strengths. Self Motivators: 1.Have a Destination Life is about the journey, but most people find the journey more meaningful when they know where they are going. The destination can be to own a house, raise a family, live with gratitude, finish college, to win an Olympic medal or walk for 30 minutes a day. 2.Are Willing to Feel Uncomfortable There are a few lucky souls that do not experience much anxiety when doing something new or risky. Most of us get anxious when we leave the familiar to stretch our wings. Self-motivated people do not let the discomfort of anxiety keep them from stepping out of the nest. 3.Dive into Life Getting involved in family, organizations, or community activities are opportunities to meet people, feel connected, and give back. This is not a requirement for reaching your goals, but it is a typical quality of self-motivated people. 4.Have Ready Physical and Mental Energy Reaching any destination, near or far, takes energy. It is important to be active and eat a reasonably healthy diet, to say no to negative self talk, and cultivate confidence. 5.Know They Don’t Know Much It is much easier to move forward if you are willing to ask for help when necessary. There is very little any one person knows for sure, and nobody knows it all. Even the most self-sufficient person sometimes needs the benefit of a fresh perspective. 6.Have a Beginner’s Mind Self-starters like to learn. They can access a beginner’s mind to discover what others can offer them. Learning also keeps the mind young and flexible, and less vulnerable to the effects of aging. 7.Have Success On the Brain Just because someone looks confident, doesn’t mean they are. Many motivated people experience doubt, anxiety, and setbacks, but they act as if they know their success is inevitable. It makes others more inclined to help them, and it sends a positive message to their mind and emotions. You can always confide your doubts to a trusted person, but no one else needs to know. 8.Are Flexible and Tenacious To reach a destination often means changing course, mapping alternative routes, taking detours, going back and around. This requires flexibility or the ability to adapt, and the persistence to continue despite difficulties. 9.Are Balanced Take care of all the aspects of your life. Home, work, friends, health, spirituality, and fun are all part of the foundation you build your goals and dreams on. Some areas may be more important to you than others, but it is wise not to ignore any of them. 10.Challenge Driven Everyone runs up against problems along life’s way. Self-initiators treat setbacks or adversity as a challenge, an expected part of the journey. You may have frustration or doubts resulting from a roadblock, but that does not have to stop you from addressing the problem and moving forward.

A great night last night. Unfortunately, last night was also a reminder that this entire unit is running on a few cylinders rather than all of them. If your car engine was not running at capacity, you would not be able to drive as fast as you may need to. Well, I'm taking this car in for a tune up! Those of you that do not bother to come in and support this team have now been exposed. Your lack of caring has now put you on the chopping block. I have 32 new recruits. 32 recruits that can not wait to be part of this team. You are in their lockers. You are wasting my time. This is a team! This is not about you! If you are notified to come in, I suggest you bring a bag to clean out your locker. It is getting busy around here and I do not have the time to babysit. I have a list of 25 people who will be asked to leave the program very shortly. Those that have the minimum for the year but choose to not come in and support their team will be asked to transfer. Remember, YOU MAY HAVE THE HOURS BUT YOU STILL CAN NOT RECEIVE ZEROES FOR THE MONTH! Read your guides! #disappointed. Great picture but, where did these people go?

A/PO Cosme   4/27: 9/11 Memorial Run
04-08-2014 6:17:17 AM EST

A/PO Stauber pretty much summed up the TSBA Meeting, so I'll get down to business. The 9/11 Memorial Run is only a few weeks away. We have 8 registered runners in a unit with 100+ Officers. I'm asking those of you who I've spoken with that committed to run to step up and sign up! To quote Wayne Gretzy: " You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Those of you in attendance last night heard it in so many words from the PC himself: WE ARE THE CHANGE WE WANT TO BE. By continuing to do events like the 9/11 Memorial Run that involved us reaching out and supporting the members of our soldiers, fellow law enforcement and first-responder community is what makes us special. Here at the CTTF we don't settle for the minimum. We don't just do what's asked of us. We go above and beyond the minimum, and expect the best from ourselves and each other. Those of you who are already signed up: A/PO DeBoer will be posting up later in the week regarding our date/time of our next practice run. Those of you who are thinking of running? Just sign up. Let's be the change we can be together. We can do this.

Word of the day...SHARP! DO what Detective Green is asking, bring forward your VALID suggestions. Don't take this opportunity for granted. GET creative (within reason) and get MOTIVATED! They're Looking At Us; we've set the standard before and we're gonna raise that bar again. ReENGINEERING at work! Coming up we have the 9/11 Memorial run. DI Byrne (AP Commander fyi for the recruits) will be running with the CTTF Auxiliary Running Club and from what I hear she runs a 7:30 mile...in other words, get in shape quick and sign up before it's too late!
