C.O. Conna   Hands-Only CPR
10-18-2013 1:19:41 PM EST

FYI, the American Heart Association advocates ‘Hands-Only CPR’, which is two-handed rapid chest compressions without rescue breathing to the general public. It is claimed by the American Heart Association that Hands-Only CPR is just as effective as conventional CPR. Nevertheless; it is quite easy to learn in two easy steps: 1) Call 911 2) administer chest compressions in rapid succession until EMS arrives. AHA has embarked upon a media campaign to instruct the public on this technique. Further information can be obtained by perusing the AHA website.

A/PO Ruiz   Re: To Avonte Oquendo missing teen
10-18-2013 12:38:02 PM EST

Just Taking a time of your moment to say that If I could go in tonight's deployment search for Avonte Oquendo. I would do this like many of you are doing too, like if it was one of my own children. Any mothers nightmare would be missing her child. I pour out myself to the only one that I know that has never lost a battle, that nothing is impossible for him, and when we say we give up and is your turn now. He makes a way where their seems to be no way. I believe that where ever this missing teen Avonte Oquendo is at,may he be found soon. My hope and faith is that He that works in mysterious ways send his divine army to encamp around Avonte Oquendo and bring him soon to safety and to the sight of any Police Officer, or Passerby. If any of you APO's have the time today please join in this deployment search for Avonte Oquendo His mother is waiting for him with open arms! I hope that with this post I don't offend anyone's judgement against me. I just like to express that if we work as a team and for a righteous cause our work as Auxiliary Police Officers, surely will not be in vain.

A/Sgt. Sterler   It's why they call us the TASK FORCE!

Last night 2 vans of Rough Riders worked traffic control around the Waldorf-Astoria during the prestigious Al Smith charity dinner that generates congestion from many limo-riding VIPs. Everyone did the expected good job, but this stands out; APO's Cruz and Beck who, frankly, don't yet have all that much time on the street, were working with a regular P.O. handling a high visibility traffic corner at Park and 50th. A regular Lieutenant watched them for a while and then assigned the regular P.O. to another hot spot. After watching for another five minutes, he was satisfied to leave the corner in the hands of Auxiliaries alone. We make an important difference wherever we serve. Are YOU getting in on the action as much as you can?

P.O. Green   Re: Belt clips
10-18-2013 10:09:13 AM EST
You can not buy the belt clips. They do not sell them in stores. I am working on developing a solution by myself. I know that APS is on top of the clip problem as well.

A/PO Cruz
10-18-2013 10:05:13 AM EST
I would also like to know where can I buy a belt clip for the tactical response hood, since I can't seem to find one at any equipment store and the radio holder could be purchased in eBay but the best bet is Amazon.

A/Sgt. Sterler   Leadership & Service
10-17-2013 3:10:46 PM EST
APOs Cosme and Ruiz showed leadership in organizing last might's CPR training and, with an able assist from APO Gonzalez, played excellent hosts to a class mainly of new BTC members. This was while the Multi-Tasking Citywide Traffic TASK FORCE delivered TWO VANS of ROUGH RIDERS to serve in the missing youth search in Queens. Everyone's participation is well appreciated, but it's worth noting that for some of these APOs it was at least the FOURTH STRAIGHT DAY they had put in serious time serving this city. Few can put in that much time, but with ALL THIS ACTION going on how can some others resist putting in the minimal time it takes to keep their shields?

A/PO Albergo   NYPD Officer from LI Killed in Southern State Crash
10-17-2013 2:40:05 PM EST
An off-duty New York City police officer from West Islip was killed in a car accident on the Southern State Parkway early Thursday morning, police said. Joseph Capo, a 27-year-old officer assigned to the NYPD’s 9th Precinct in Manhattan, was driving a 2004 Volkswagen east on the Southern State Parkway near Bethpage Parkway just before 1 a.m. when he lost control of the car, struck a 2001 Cadillac and overturned several times, New York State police said in a news release. Capo was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. The 54-year-old driver of the Cadillac received treatment for minor injuries, police said. Police did not say what caused Capo to lose control of the vehicle. A police spokesman could not be reached for comment.

A/PO Ruiz   Re: Last night CPR training
10-17-2013 2:25:14 PM EST

Last night Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was a very informative training. Everyone that attended the class yesterday night now knows the 3 main steps in CPR (compressions, airway, and breathing). I just want to say Thank you to the coordinator P.O. Green for giving me this opportunity to do this for the A/CTTF unit. Also A/Sgt. Sterler for his supervision and participation, the three officers that were more than helpful at their participation and task A/PO Cosme, A/PO Gonzalez, A/PO Aboulleit, and New recruits that were eager to learn the CPR techniques. Also special thanks A/capt. Pass-Stern & A/Sgt. Borsit your instructions in CPR really shows your professionalism. Once again thank you. You were all marvelous last night.
