Thank you Officer Green for maintaining the serious positive tone of this valuable CTTF resource and defending it against small and cowardly minds. One thought I'd like to add to your remark about choosing whom to save first in a situation where both a partner and a civilian are threatened. While any action taken at any time must depend on the specific circumstances involved, an important consideration is the possibility that first defending one's partner may then enable BOTH of you to combine your efforts to successfully rescue the civilian.

That is a split second decision that nobody wants to make. I can not tell you what decision to make. There is no text book or procedure when it comes to this question. So, I do not have that answer. The scenario and you will dictate the decision that will have to be made. Hopefully, you will never have to be put in that position.

If I had to choose to save my partner or a civilian in a 10-13 which one should I choose. Just wondering.Good day sir

A/Sgt. Sterler   SAD??? I'll tell you what's sad!
05-27-2013 8:07:34 PM EST
I'm posting from Amsterdam, and a just a bit sensitive on this subject because my unavoidable business trip here prevented me from standing with my brothers and sisters at the Arlington. What's really sad though is that the self-described ''outsider looking in'' still doesn't have the testicles or ovaries to identify him or herself. CTTF has the courage to hang much of its internal business, troubles as well as triumphs, on this public wall for any who care to see. The least any outsiders who choose to comment here can do is show the courtesy, requested by the site administrator, of properly identifying themselves. Now, about the Arlington turnout. While I was one who couldn't attend, I've seen the photos. Not just the ones posted here, but a more complete set taken by a photographer who wasn't concentrating especially on CTTF. While our numbers were fewer than desired, the HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE and BEARING of the members of this unit who did attend STILL made its presence an impressive part of the event and showed due reverence for the fallen honored at the ceremony. Appearance isn't everything, of course. But having been in this command for several months now (and an AP for... let's just say a few years,) I'd match up the PERFORMANCE of ANY FIVE ROUGH RIDERS, including those in the last class to graduate, against ANY TEN APOs in the program. Since the ''outsider'' previously showed a penchant for esoteric quotes, he can reference ''Will Sonnet's'' catch phrase, and the Saint Crispin's Day speech from Shakespeare's ''Henry V.'' Fidelis ad Mortem.

Today is a very special day. Today is the day we should reflect on what our service men and women have sacrificed for us. Take time out today and pray for all our soldiers that are out fighting for your Freedom. I would also like to say that I am very proud of my partner who at a later age decided to join our military. I also want to thank all our Auxiliary members that came out to Arlington Cemetery with us to honor our fallen brothers.

First, post your name. Second, the next BTC starts when the Auxiliary Police Station says it starts. YOU ARE BEING INVESTIGATED STILL. YOU STILL DID NOT GET YOUR FINGERPRINTS DONE. Candidates, you get investigated for the auxiliary program just like you get investigated for the NYPD. Remember, you are joining the police department as a volunteer member. WE WILL CALL YOU FOR THE NEXT STEP!!! POST YOUR NAMES!!!!

ENJOY YOUR MEMORIAL DAY!!!! REMEMBER, THE SOLDIERS EARNED THIS DAY FOR US. DO NOT FORGET OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS. TODAY IS THEIR DAY!!!!

C.O. Conna   Re: We earned our day off
05-27-2013 7:31:42 AM EST
I understand your message. Yes, CTTF volunteers are the best in the City of New York guided by your leadership. And yes, these volunteers do deserve a day off!I did not mean to imply any negative by my posting.I guess I "preach" too much and some of my written ramblings could be taken out of context! My thoughts of today are with the three separate police agencies that serve our rural communities: State, County, and local town PDs. Usually, but most commonly on holidays there seems to be a exponential increase of incidents: DV,DWI,Assaults and EDPs. Naturally, some of the arrested subjects could land up in the county jail. Anyhow, holidays do tax limited resources of police protective services to the limit. Enjoy Memorial Day and remember the military veterans who served our country. Including my 92 year father who served in General George Patton's 3rd Army during World War II.

We Earned Day Off
05-27-2013 6:51:18 AM EST
C.O. Conna, we are normal people and need a break just like everyone else. The number of hours some of us put in each week would surprise you. Many of us easily put in 8 to 12 hour Patrols on a single day and still come in the next day ready for more. All of us have busy lives and for some its not exactly easy to simply come in and VOLUNTEER due their schedule. We are the best N.Y.P.D. AUX UNIT however we are not the only one, I'm sure there will be other units out and about (including other police officers). Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. We know what we singed up for and love doing it with a passion. The problem is with message like the one you previously posted it feels as if you want us to go above and beyond, after we have already gone above and beyond. Our unit in a single month puts in more hours than many other units put in an entire year. With all due respect, sometimes the eyes and ears become over used and could use a single days rest.

C.O. Conna   Crime Prevention is the key to police work
05-27-2013 5:54:45 AM EST

A/Sgt.France, the main purpose of uniformed police motor and foot patrols is crime prevention. Patrols tend to be proactive.

Question!!!

Mr. Officer green, When are applicants going to be called to be informed about when classes for BTC starts?

C.O. Conna   Police Arlington Rememberance
05-25-2013 9:07:19 PM EST

P.O. Green, I am in agreement with your sentiments. I was in attendance today, for the Police Arlington Memorial Remembrance. Standing side by side with you, P.O. Navarro, and the volunteer members of the NYPD CTTF we witnessed history in the making of the re-dedication of this sacred ground as we paid tribute to our fallen brethren as well as thoughts of us amongst us with devastating illness. It strengthens our belief in, as law enforcement officers, to carry on in the fine tradition as they would have. Yet, promote our mores and values to our younger brothers and sisters in uniform. It was a day of solemn remembrance with Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly as master of ceremony. Chief of Department Phillip Banks III, in addition to several deputy and assistant chief executive officers attended this re-dedication ceremony as well. Those that came will remember this an an experience of a lifetime.Throughout my many aggregate years as a law enforcement officer; I have attended numerous wakes and funerals of police and correction officers whom I knew and worked with over the years. These experiences have made me appreciate the value of life itself and to be the best as one could be: To acknowledge those who has proceeded us and to be an example for those who will follow in our footsteps.

A/Sgt. Wice   PO Henry Haywood, a Rough Rider Sergeant
05-25-2013 5:57:46 PM EST

PO Green showed us the grave of NY Police Office Henry Haywood today at Police Arlington. A little background: Officer Haywood was the first of four NY police officers to join Colonel Roosevelt as a Rough Rider. He began his career as a mounted officer, moving to a Manhattan precinct where Commissioner Roosevelt recognized his abilities. Officer Haywood jeopardized his police career to join Roosevelt in the Spanish American War. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant one week after arriving in Cuba and was killed in action at San Juan Hill. After a temporary burial at San Juan Hill, NY police friends ensured that he be re-interred in NYC and arranged for his permanent burial at Cypress Hills. 14 Rough attended his burial. I would like to thank the members of this unit, including the BTC members that showed up today and paid tribute to the forgotten fallen of this police department. Although our numbers were not as many as I wanted, those that showed made history witnessing the re-dedication of this incredible burial ground of our fallen. This was a monumental day a I hope you all remember it. For those that didn't care enough to show, shame on you!!!! You don't deserve to be in this unit. I am speaking to those that chose to sleep late and not give a crap about dead police officers. Those that wear the auxiliary shield and patch but do not understand the meaning behind what we do. Those that just care about themselves. Your days are numbered. Take a lot of pictures of your shield because I am going to take it!!!! That is a promise! You joined the wrong unit. This unit is about pure police work. It is about helping others and standing next to, around, and with your brothers and sisters, dead or alive. We take this very seriously and we owe it to our fallen. You, don't care. I don't care about what comes next. GENERAL BODY MEETING OF ALL AND I MEAN ALL MEMBERS. NO EXCUSES!!!!! I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE GOING ON!!!!! 6/19 @ 2000!!!!!!

Thank you Officers Green and Navarro and A/Capt Quinones. No other AP unit gets to participate in Police Arlington and meet the Police Commissioner and the Chief of Department. Welcome to the impressive BTC class. And a great day with the APOs who turned out despite the incredible weather.
