United Insignia in downtown Brooklyn - google it for phone & location near subways - should have you out the door w/ your tag in 10 min for $10. Check timing by phone first - I think the department that cuts tags goes to lunch for an hour closes by 1630. A/Sgt. Sterler

A Virginia State Police trooper was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Thursday, and a suspect was arrested after exchanging fire with another trooper, authorities said. Master Trooper Junius A. Walker, 60, was shot multiple times, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. Walker, who was patrolling alone, called for backup after being fired upon just before 1:30 p.m. ET. The second trooper arrived within two minutes and saw a male suspect firing into Walker's marked police vehicle, which was down an embankment off the southbound lanes of Interstate 85, Geller said. The second trooper fired at the suspect, who fled into nearby woods. He was found nearby and was arrested before 2 p.m. The suspect was not immediately identified. Charges were pending. “We're trying to determine if there was a second individual involved,” Geller said at a news conference near the scene in Dinwiddie County, just south of Richmond.

Well, I assume you're referring to: 1) Michael Simanowitz, 27th Assembly District, Queens, a former A/DI who had been Chief of Staff for the retiring Assemblymember he replaced. 2) Phillip Goldfeder, 23rd Assembly District, also Queens, who may have resigned from the program before running to fill a mid-term vacancy. I don't believe either ''had to'' resign, however. The Assembly votes on laws every day that affect the law practices of the Members who are mostly lawyers. At most, if the two remained in the program they might have abstained on the once in a blue moon votes that benefit APs. BY THE WAY... I'm going off-line now & will consider any potentially winning response on the history quiz later this evening.

A/Sgt. Sterler   OK, maybe.

APO Perugini's post (which crossed my last one in the cloud) should knock Wice out of the winner's circle since it's technically correct on Q 3 though I consider it incomplete (I asked what they shared but failed to ask the names be part of the answer.) I'll have to raise the bar if I'm to declare a winner, since 3 people have each revealed partial answers. For the trophy (well, the T-shirt) someone post, completely: The formal designation of the specific Buffalo Soldier unit that fought alongside the Rough Riders at San Juan Heights, Sutton's military unit (including BOTH formal three digit unit numbers and BOTH the commonly used name and lesser known nickname, and state the obvious common characteristic between the WWII and Spanish War units,) and the names and ranks of the Spanish commander and the CTTF AP. Sudden death overtime.

No contest here for anyone except A/Sgt. Sterler: Can you name at least two APOs recently elected to the NY State Assembly who then had to resign from the Auxiliary program after they were elected? I will pass on answering your part #3 as I'd like someone else to step to the plate and take a chance at winning.

A/Sgt. Sterler   No winner yet

P.O. Green has the correct nickname - a very good shot from the hip (I doubt that he even googled it) - but has not stated the actual designation of the unit (''Coasties'' and ''Green Berets'' are honorable nicknames for U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army Special Forces, but not the units' actual names.) A hint; it was a regular unit of full-time professional soldiers serving in peacetime as well as war, unlike the Rough Riders who, though paid, specifically volunteered just for the Spanish American War (Volunteer=Auxiliary? A proud thought in this context.) APO Wice got the toughest part of the quiz essentially correct (thanks to his political acumen, of course) - but note that Sutton was BP BEFORE he became an Auxiliary PATROLMAN in the days before gender neutral titles and when both regular and Auxiliary POLICE WOMEN wore a different hat than PatrolMEN (I might bring a picture to Wednesday's meeting.) To win, though, Wice must be first to post the full answer to question 1 and, of course, name the CTTFer involved in question 3. At this point, only Wice can win, since he's given away the answer almost no one else would have gotten. But he can also LOSE, if someone else posts the full answers before he does. It's not a requirement for winning, but Sutton's military unit should be named and its shared characteristic with the Spanish American War unit explained.
